Usually meets on the 2nd Sunday of each month, 3pm (until about 4:30 or 5).  But keep in touch, as this changes.  Contact: Bernt Hillesland. (Contact form below)

What’s EOP?

E = English: we use Barnes Book of English Country Dances, volumes 1 & 2.

0 = Old time: by memory / ear or notation – one common source of tunes (besides Portland Collection) is here.

P = Portland Collection: Contra Dance Music from the Pacific Northwest, all volumes (well, mostly 1 & 2).

Sometimes we also use the Waltz books edited by Bill Mattheisen

We have an extra copy of all books available – just let us know ahead of time if you’d like to use them at the jam.  Participants share books – and occasionally bring printouts of new tunes.  Ability to read notation is helpful but not necessary. The books include chord progressions.

Location

We’ve been meeting on the front porch of First Lutheran Church in downtown Palo Alto, 600 Homer Avenue (corner of Homer and Webster, meet on the Homer side of the building). There’s nice canopy shade, access to restrooms, and we can gather inside if there’s bad weather. Street parking.  In the past, we’ve met at peoples’ homes.

What to bring: instrument (commonly we’ve had fiddles, dulcimer, mandolin, octave mandolin, guitar, bass), any books you have, maybe a music stand.  We have tons of chairs and half a dozen music stands. You could also come to just listen.
